It’s everything you want and more- SyFy has announced its plans for a Sharknado sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sharnado 2 will return to the cable network in 2014 with a shark attack set to hit New York City.
It’s not as if the B-movie dominated in ratings, ralling in a petty 1.4 million viewers, but the sci-fi thriller became a social media sensation bringing in over 600,000 mentions- becoming the channel’s most social program ever.
"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year," Syfy's Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Thomas Vitale said in a statement following the news.
Fans are encourage to get back into the Sharknado frenzy by helping production name the upcoming film by submitting their ideas via Twitter. Tweeters can tweet @SyFyMovies with the name they feel is most suited for the upcoming sequel along with the hashtag #Sharkanado.
Tweeters are already submitting their gems, among the suggestions include: Sharkpocalypse, Sharknado II: The Wrath of Sharka Khan, Sharknado 2: Eye of the Tiger Shark, Sharknado 2: Chew York, Chew York.
Can’t wait till next year to get your fill of cheesy SyFy movies? The network announced Tuesday that it is currently working on Ghost Shark, slated to air August 22.
