Throwback Thursday: Lindsay Lohan

Troubled starlet Lindsay Lohan popped back into the spotlight with an announcement that she would be participating in an interview with Oprah Winfrey upon completing a 90 rehab program as a plea deal for misdemeanor charges. The interview will precede an eight-part documentary series about the 27-year-old’s attempt to gain stability after recent personal and legal woes, and will air on OWN, Winfrey’s network.

This time last year, Lohan was in production on Lifetime’s Liz and Dick and avoiding legal battles stemming from a June car accident. Reports read that the red-haired actress totaled her Porsche after crashing into an 18-wheeler. Lohan was rushed to the hospital, but did not sustain any injuries.

By September , as Lohan was awaiting her comeback role, Liz and Dick , to air on Lifetime, she was accused of lying to police officers who arrived at the scene. Lohan told the officers that she had not been driving the black car at the time of the accident, which evidence later showed to be contrary to the truth.

Lohan’s comeback role in the Lifetime movie about two-time Oscar winner and fashion icon Elizabeth Taylor and her two-time husband Richard Burton received negative reviews, halting the young actress’ return to stardom.

The Canyons actress’ luck continued to evade her as she was embroiled in two scuffles, one with a woman in a New York City bar, and the second with mother Dina after a night of drinking.

Amidst the negative publicity, Lohan’s outspoken father Michael spoke about his daughter’s lifestyle, saying that were she to stop “staying out late” and cut “some of the people out of her life” she would be on the fast track to be “back as one of the best actresses in Hollywood.”

Lohan’s most recent on-screen endeavor in the low-budget The Canyons has director Paul Schrader drawing comparisons between the actress and Marilyn Monroe, saying he had to deal with “tardiness, unpredictability, tantrums, absences, neediness, psychodrama” on set. Though Schrader spoke candidly about his troubles during shooting, he defended Lohan’s talent, stating she has “something more, that thing that keeps you watching someone on screen, that thing you can’t take your eyes off of, that magic, that mystery.”

Schrader may in fact be onto something there. Despite continuous run-ins with the law and underwhelming comeback performances, the world continues to watch Lohan on screen, whether she is trying to conjure up laughs on SNL , or laughing at herself in Scary Movie 5 . One thing is for certain, those who have loved Lindsay since her Parent Trap days are sure to tune in for the “fantastic” reality series set to document a “happy, healthy, and amazing” Lohan.
