The Book Thief, one of the fall’s most highly anticipated films, now has a trailer.
Twentieth Century Fox released the trailer for its adaptation of Markus Zusak’s best-selling novel on Wednesday. The film comes from the same studio as the award-winning Life of Pi, which could portend an Oscar nomination in its future, according to the Huffington Post.
Though authors generally have mixed feelings about Hollywood adaptations of their work, Zusak is enthusiastic about the film.
“And so it is – just on eight years after The Book Thief was first published, here are Liesel, Hans and Rosa, Max and Rudy in the first official trailer for the film, and I can’t lie – I’m writing this with my heart still loud inside me,” the author reported on Tumblr. “As I said to a few people close by after watching it: ‘I’m fine! I’ve just got something in my eye!’”
Originally slated for a January release, The Book Thief is now set to hit theaters on Nov. 15. The film is directed by Brian Percival of Downton Abbey fame and stars Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson, and newcomer Sophie Nélisse as the young protagonist, Liesel Meminger.
