After it was reported that former Bachelor and Bachelor Pad star Gia Allemand was in critical condition in a New Orleans hospital, a hospital source has confirmed that she has passed away at age 29 on Wednesday.
It’s unknown what the cause of death of the reality star and former model is, who was dating NBA star Ryan Anderson at the time of her death.
In a statement, her family simply wrote, "On behalf of the family, we kindly ask for privacy at this time," People reports.
On Tuesday, her publicist was vague when the following statement was released; "Gia Allemand was taken to University Hospital, New Orleans last night following a serious emergency medical event, the details of which are currently not known. She is listed in critical condition. Ms. Allemand's mother is with her, along with her long-term boyfriend, NBA basketball player Ryan Anderson of the New Orleans Pelicans. On behalf of the family, we kindly ask for privacy at this time."
Allemand was on Season 14 of The Bachelor when the women were vying for Jake Pavelka’s affections.
Pavelka tweeted when news broke she was in the hospital, “Please pray for @GiaAllemand… A dear friend and one of the sweetest women I know… #powerofprayer."
UPDATE: E! News received a statement from Allemand's rep who confirmed that she died following an apparent suicide attempt.
The statement continues:
"Loved ones and fans will remember Gia Allemand as a caring woman who loved her family and was well-known for her compassion towards animals and mission to rescue homeless pets. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming in another official statement once available. On behalf of the family, we sincerely ask for privacy at this time."
