In the mid-2000s the once self-proclaimed “Best Rapper Alive” was on top of the rap game. Lil Wayne boasted platinum selling albums The Carter II and The Carter 3 and also ruled the mixtape scene with the Dedication series. It also seemed like he was featured on every hot single out during that decade. Complex named him the 3rd best rapper of the 2000s after Jay-Z and Eminem.
His last album I Am Not A Human Being II didn’t have as much success as his previous albums. Lately it seems that the focus hasn’t been on music for Lil Wayne. While most of the Hip Hop community gathered together for the BET Awards, Lil Wayne skipped the award show to skateboard with Knicks guard J.R. Smith according to VladTV.
“Noticed I wasn’t nominated nor involved n da MTV VMA’s nor da BET awards…. I apologize to my fans and I promise 2 work harder if it kills me.” Lil Wayne tweeted to apologize to his fans for missing these award shows.
Vibe reports that Lil Wayne is working on his next mixtape Dedication 5 with DJ Drama. We should be expecting it during labor day weekend and hopefully it lives up to its expectations.
Lil Wayne has contemplated retirement in the last couple of years but we expect that when he actually does, he will leave the game on top and be remembered as one of the greatest.
