Lindsay Lohan admitted to being an addict in a highly anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey. On Oprah's Next Chapter, the troubled actress opened up about her childhood, her legal issues, and the role that alcohol plays in her life.

After admitting that she is an addict, Lohan tells Oprah that alcohol is her drug of choice, reports E! Online. As Oprah questions Lohan about how her addiction led her to spend time in jail, Lohan discusses what subconsciously motivated her behavior. She says that on some level, she wanted to be sentenced to jail. "I think it was just to find some peace and just have no choice but to just sit and be," she says.

Oprah pressed Lohan on what led her to this life of chronic dysfunction. Lohan describes her unusual childhood and discusses the consequences that it had for her adult life. She says, "A lot of stuff went on with my family when I was young and I grew up in a very chaotic home and then there were moments of everything being wonderful and perfect and then things being so uncontrollable and chaotic that—it's something people go through and unfortunately I waited too long to face it."

Lohan says that she created chaos around her because she was used to it. The Huffington Post reports that Lohan says that alcohol became the gateway to cocaine before she became fed up with the chaos around her. She explains, "It's a process of growing up and recognizing and being just so tired and exhausted by the chaos."
