Lisa Kudrow joins 'Scandal'

Lisa Kudrow is getting scandalous.

The former Friends actress has signed on to join the ABC drama for a recurring role during the upcoming third season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Few details are known about her character just yet, but TVLine reports that her character’s name could possibly be “Shelley Meyers” and that it’s likely she’ll be a powerful, smart politician opposite Kerry Washington’s professional fixer Olivia Pope.

According to Deadline, the role on the soapy Shondra Rhimes show reunites Kudrow with frequent producing partner Dan Bucatinsky. It’s also her first television commitment in a while, the last major deal being her short-lived series The Comeback in 2005.

Showrunner Rhimes told THR that season three of the Emmy-nominated Scandal will focus on President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) and his quest for re-election.

“We're going to head in that direction, but I don't know if we're going to get there in the first half of the season," Rhimes said. "But we are heading in that direction. It's a big deal. We're at the timeline where that starts to be an issue."

How Kudrow’s new character plays into the arc remains to be seen.

Scandal returns Oct. 3 at 10 p.m.
