James DiMaggio’s kidnapping of Hannah Anderson, new details in the case have been released, including phone records, items seized from their houses, and more information on the day of the kidnapping.
DiMaggio and Anderson exchanged 13 phone calls before an “unknown person” picked her up from cheerleading practice, writes the LA Times. Authorities say the calls may have been about pickup times, and added that “Hannah is a victim in every sense of the word. Our follow-up investigation has not changed that sentence.”
The follow-up investigation also seized computers, photos, papers, and a journal from the Andersons’ house, and handwritten letters from Anderson to DiMaggio at DiMaggio’s house. Also discovered at DiMaggio’s house were handcuff boxes, duct tape, two used condoms, incendiary devices, arson wire, and other items. Police say there were indications that the fires had been started separately, with timing devices and accelerant. The police also released information showing that a crowbar was found near Christina Anderson’s head, and that the family dog had also been found shot dead.
CBS News reports that in posts apparently made by Anderson on her ask.fm account, she revealed that DiMaggio was her father’s best friend, and that she hadn’t known her mother and brother were dead until she was rescued and hospitalized. The postings also stated that Anderson stayed awake for six days while DiMaggio ignored requests for food, and that he had shown her a gun and threatened to shoot her and anyone she asked for help. The account was later deleted.
