Katy Perry is in the midst of redefining her image from sugar sweet to deliciously dark. With the dramatic style change came a gusty and raw single, “Roar," which reignited buzz about her “negativity” toward Lady Gaga.
The two hit makers have butted heads in the past, in a feud mainly fueled by the press. All of the ingredients for the perfect celebrity cat fight were in place: covering each other’s songs, commenting on fashion choices, and critiquing music videos. Though Perry aims to peacefully “coexist” with the mother of all Monsters, there is only room for one queen of the Twitterverse.
The 28-year-old’s prompt success on the Billboard charts must seem like déjà vu, as this time last year, Perry was celebrating the release of her documentary Part of Me 3D, accompanied by the mega hit “Wide Awake.” The film chronicled her previous year’s “pretty tough times,”, which included the sudden end of her marriage to loud mouth comedian Russell Brand. The marriage was almost as short as the Perry’s single life, as she quickly rebounded with John Mayer, proving to the pesky media just how “approachable” she can be.
The Killer Queen may have found herself out $20 million in 2013, but seems to have struck gold in her on-again boyfriend Mayer (sorry Twilight fans). Perry seems to have found Paradise in her blossoming “Love” with Mayer, who seems dedicated to making the relationship work.
This summer will wind down well for the Smurfette, who will grace the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards later this month. Fall promises even bigger things for Perry, including the release of her highly-anticipated new album Prism on October 22.
