A 30-second commercial spot during the series finale of Breaking Bad cost a hefty $250,000.
AMC, the network that airs Breaking Bad, was sold out of all the commercial spots well before the end of the week.
A commercial for the series finale was over double the price of a commercial during Breaking Bad normally. This year, the commercial price during the show was $75,000. Last year it was $56,000, according to Forbes.
Breaking Bad has grown tremendously in popularity since it first aired. When it premiered, the show had one million viewers, and now it has six million, according to Huffington Post. Plus, even more than average were expected to watch the much-anticipated finale.
In addition to the money that AMC is raking in, Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the show takes place, has also seen a rise in its economy. Tourists have flocked to the town for a Breaking Bad experience, and the local businesses have pulled through. An Albuquerque sweets shop even produced a candy imitation of the blue meth on the show.
