Tokyo has been selected as the host of the 2020 Summer Olympics. Tokyo beat out Istanbul in the final round of voting by the International Olympic Committee. Istanbul's chances were reportedly greatly hurt by the deteriorating situation in neighboring Syria.

The president has been lobbying for support abroad and domestically to launch airstrikes against the Syrian government, who the U.S. says has launched chemical weapons attacks against its own people.
