New Jersey may just have its own Anthony Weiner-style scandal, but at least this one doesn’t involve any questionable photos from the politicians himself. On Wednesday, it was revealed that Newark mayor and Senate candidate Cory Booker has been exchanging tweets and direct messages with a vegan stripper from Portland, Oregon.
The relationship between Booker and Lynsie Lee, who works at the world’s first vegan strip club, was first revealed over at Buzzfeed. Booker is following Lee, since the two met after working on the Twitter film Follow Friday: The Film. She’s often tweeting explicit messages and topless photos. Also, she and Booker have exchanged public tweets. She has even suggested that she could be Booker’s first lady if he becomes president.
But then a shocking twist enters the picture. She is Calla Bonanno, another woman who wanted to be Booker’s first lady. She also claimed to have direct messages with Booker. The New York Times contacted Bonanno, who said she began talking with Booker after she complimented him for a TV appearance.
In DMs with Lee, Booker writes, “And the East Coast loves you, and by the East Coast, I mean me.” Lee replied, “Well now I’m blushing :)” And Booker’s response was “Its only fair.”
“He was just flattering me,” Lee told BuzzFeed. “It began with me sending an actual tweet saying that the west coast loved him, especially me. So he replied with that just to flatter me :).”
Booker’s campaign spokesman Kevin Griffiths told BuzzFeed that, “I think it’s pretty well known that the mayor talks with people from all walks of life on Twitter.” He added, “There have been a couple of stories about that over the years. Really, the most shocking part of this story was learning there is a vegan strip club in Portland.”
Even if this isn’t anything as earth-shattering as Weinergate, Lee is still having a ball with the press. “I'll call all of you reporters back when I'm done pooping I swear!” she tweeted. She also reminded people to donate to his campaign.
