When Caroline and Max discover they both have rent money, they are ecstatic because that means they both have extra money.
Later, Caroline tries really hard at flirting with a dashing customer. Caroline has nicknamed the guy the “Turkey Club Cutie” because he always orders the same item. As Caroline says goodbye to the guy and tugs at her hair flirtatiously, her extension falls off. Caroline tries to pretend that what Max saw didn’t happen.
“I have a confession to make: I have hair extensions,” Caroline says even though Max already knows. “I murdered a man on Rhode Island,” Max says sarcastically.
Caroline defends herself by saying the extensions give her volume, to which Max replies, "Too bad it doesn’t give you depth.”
Han appears from the diner kitchen with a piece of Caroline’s hair extension. Han automatically assumes that Caroline has cancer.
Caroline seems worried about Han knowing about her extensions, but Max reassures Caroline Han only thinks that it’s cancer. Caroline looks relieved until Luis comes in reminding her about her extension problems.
At the apartment, Caroline tells Max that she used the extra money for new hair extensions, and pajamas with Eiffel Towers printed on it. She also surprises Max with a gift of a new bed skirt and sheet set. Max gets angry at Caroline for getting rid of her old sheets.
As much as Max tries to sleep on her new sheets, she cannot do so and looks for Caroline in the middle of the night to get her sheet set back.
However, a sleepy Caroline breaks the news to Max that her sheets are in the donation bin.
Max drags her best friend to the donation bin and admits to Caroline that it’s mainly the jagged-edged pillowcase that helps her to sleep at night. Without any shame, Max crawls inside the bin. But Max is not alone. A homeless man lives in the bin and comically shuts the door on Max after Max unlatches the door to the bin from the inside.
Sadly, Max doesn’t get her pillowcase and looks to sleeping pills to resolve her sleeping problem. Who does she turn to get those pills?
It’s none other than Sophie, who happens to be awake at 3 a.m. because she sleeps only three hours at night and six hours during the daytime.
Sophie gives Max a pill, but she’s not sure if it’s a sleeping pill or an emergency space pill that can kill you, as Sophie likes to put it. Sophie also has a rack of pills to choose from mixed in with her spice rack.
Caroline takes the pill away from Max, but Sophie comes into the diner incognito the next morning to try to hand Max the pill.
Max, on the other hand, points out that as attached as she is over her pillowcase, Caroline also has the same attachment issue with her hair, so Max obtains a Rob Stewartesque wig for Caroline to wear to make a point.
Caroline intercepts Sophie’s hand-off of the sleeping pill to Max and looks initially confident about wearing her wig, yet when the Turkey Club Cutie returns to the diner, she drops behind the counter and crawls away to the kitchen.
In the end, Caroline admits to her attachment problem, while Max deals with not having a jagged pillowcase to give her a good night’s sleep. Caroline suggests Max rub on her new pajamas because it might remind Max of her pillowcase. Max falls asleep gripping on to Caroline’s pajamas before Caroline has to cut a piece off just to leave Max’s side.
