911 operator laughs during emergency call

An Arizona 911 dispatcher answered an emergency call for a man who's car and girlfriend caught fire in an accident. Her response? She laughed.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Lalo Delgado was driving to Chiva Falls, AZ when his car caught on fire, endangering his girlfriend who was along for the ride with him.

When Delgado called 911, he told the operator, “My car just kinda caught on fire, my girlfriend caught on fire.” When he said that his girlfriend was no longer on fire, the operator was heard laughing in the background.

Disgusted with the way the dispatcher handled the situation, Delgado called back a few minutes later, and said, "Yeah, I called in a few minutes ago and I just wanted to make sure you took me seriously."

Captain Jim Berry, a sheriff's spokesman, responded to the situation, saying, “Certainly I can understand why he was upset. I would be too. We're investigating what the laughter was about.”

Arizona officials are investigating the matter to determine what exactly the laughing was about. “We did not perform as I expect or the citizens of this county expect us to,” Berry told KGUN-TV in Tucson. “We're going to correct that.”

Delgado's girlfriend is suffered from minor injuries and is currently recovering.
