This November, master magician David Blaine will appear on the ABC network in a primetime special, David Blaine: Real or Magic. A huge list of celebrities will appear on the show, which will feature a 90-minute compilation of street magic segments.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star-studded special has been years in the making. Blaine will be shown performing for all sorts of celebrities including Katy Perry, Woody Allen, Stephen Hawking, Ricky Gervais, and former president George W. Bush. The special will also take us into the homes of celebrities such as Olivia Wilde, Kanye West, and Harrison Ford.
Blaine has put a lot of thought into the creation of Real or Magic. He told The Hollywood Reporter at a private showing; "I went after all of the people that I loved the most and surprised them and did magic in places that I knew people would understand that I couldn't have staged or set up or had people pretending. I wanted it to all be believable and went after people you never could get to pretend. I combined that with going into the streets and encountering all different people to do magic nonstop."
How did he nab the A-listers? "Most of the people, it was me negotiating private parties -- I owe lots of people lots of performances for the rest of my life." And the former president? He convinced the Secret Service.
A press release revealed that Blaine is taking on more than New York (the stage for several of his past stunts- for example, in 2000 Blaine was frozen in a box of ice for 63 hours, 42 minutes and 15 seconds in Times Square), more than the United States, but places all over the world. According to TV by the Numbers multimedia company Electus' global distribution arm, Electus International, has acquired international rights to the special.
David Blaine is well known for his personal brand of street magic and groundbreaking, nature-defying stunts.
