At the start of the second leg, teams found out they would be making their way to Museo Corbeta de Esmeralda, where they would receive their next clue. However, the Museo wouldn’t open until 7:15 a.m., giving all of the teams a chance to arrive. While waiting, Tim and Marie took charge, making a "backpack line" determining order, much to the chagrin of their fellow racers.
When the Museo opened, teams found out they had to find a famous saying and repeat it in Spanish. Brandon and Adam propelled themselves from last to first, thanks to their knowledge of Spanish, and were the first to head to the Irlanda Salt Mines.
Once there, teams encountered a detour — in “Brining,” they would have to add enough salt to a pool of water until they could comfortably float and read a newspaper before receiving their next clue. In “Mining,” teams would have to break open boulders of salt until they found one with a clue inside of it.
Brandon and Adam, Leo and Jamal, Chester and Ephraim, and Rowan and Shane all chose Mining, as did Ally and Ashley, who switched to Brining. Their switch put them with Nicole and Travis, Jason and Amy, Tim and Marie, Tim and Danny, and Nicky and Kim.
Brandon and Adam finished first and began a 1,000 mile bus journey to Santiago, Chile and Plaza des Armes. They were followed shortly after by Leo and Jamal and Chester and Ephraim.
The first bus, which left at 1:30 p.m., had Brandon and Adam, Leo and Jamal, Chester and Ephraim, Jason and Amy, and Nicole and Travis. A second bus, which left half-an-hour later, had Tim and Marie, Ally and Ashley, Nicky and Kim, and Tim and Danny.
Rowan and Shane thought they were getting on a bus that would get to Santiago at 4:00 p.m., ahead of the other teams, but misunderstood, and after letting the 2:00 p.m. bus go, realized their mistake — the bus they were getting on was leaving at 4, and wouldn’t get in until 10:00 p.m. — four hours after the other teams. They did manage to get on a different bus with a 7:00 p.m. arrival time instead.
Once arriving in Santiago, the teams encountered a roadblock, where one team member would polish a customer’s shoes, before putting together their stand and transporting it six blocks to a central storage area, before they could receive their next clue.
After the roadblock, teams made their way to the Cascada de las Animas nature reserve, the next pit stop.
Leo and Jamal arrived first, but did not fully settle their cab fare, demoting them to second place after Chester and Ephraim arrived, winning the leg, as well as a trip for two to Turks and Caicos.
Finishing up the top half of racers were Brandon and Adam in 3rd, Nicole and Travis in 4th, and Jason and Amy in 5th.
Following behind in order were: Tim and Danny, Ally and Ashley, and Tim and Marie.
The race came down to a fight between Nicky and Kim after they forgot part of their stand, and Rowan and Shane after they made a series of mistakes, including shining shoes at the wrong stand. After a race by taxi, Nicky and Kim beat the theater performers, putting them in last place, and eliminating them from the race.
