Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the American Hotel is a magnificent Greek Revival building from the mid 1800’s. As the name implies, it is a hotel. However, it is also a great restaurant offering high quality meal and it was the purpose of my visit.
The dinning room is decorated warmly and feels intimate. I perused the menu and quickly found an intriguing appetizer. I visited Ommegang brewery just the day before and I really liked their product. So when I saw on the menu “Ommegang Beer Battered Palatine Cheddar Cheese” on the menu, I knew I had to git a try. I came with a spiced apple relish. I was delicious.
Being a fan of bourbons, I was drawn to the Boneless Porterhouse steak for my main course as it was served with a homemade bourbon steak sauce. Tender, cooked to perfection, and served with tasty vegetables. Again, I was not disappointed.
The quality of my dessert was on par with the rest of meal: delicious. The generous portion of Maple cream layer cake was accompanied by vanilla ice cream.
I strongly believe that a great restaurant needs to have a good choice of Scotches. You will not be surprised to ear that it is the case at the American Hotel. I enjoyed a 12 years old Glenlivet as a digestif as I was smiling, already thinking back about this great foodie experience that I just had.
