Over the weekend, it was announced that Charlie Hunnam was dropping out of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Universal says it was due to scheduling conflicts, sources for The Hollywood Reporter are saying otherwise.
Two sources are claiming that the Sons of Anarchy star dropped out due to nervousness about the project, The Hollywood Reporter notes. The issue doesn't have to do with the role itself, the sources add.
Rather, the problem lies in the attention that the 33-year-old was getting because of the role. Evidently Universal Pictures hired bodyguards during a premiere for SOA because of the increased attention and the British actor was bombarded with questions about the Fifty Shades movie. The sources say it was just too much for the actor.
When the news first hit, it was said the issue was due to scheduling conflicts, New York Daily News reports.
Universal released a statement saying, "The filmmakers of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."
Well now producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti will have to hurry up and find another Christian Grey as the production schedule is fairly tight to make the current Aug. 1, 2014 release date, THR notes.
