In a new interview, Jennifer Lawrence opens up about her now famous moment when she tripped while walking on stage to accept her Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.
She admits that nerves got the best of her and when she’s feeling nervous, she resorts to making “awkward jokes” and stuttering.
Lawrence told Harper’s Bazaar UK someone told her she sounded like a “stuttering idiot” when accepting her award, but she explains her intentions.
“[The other person said] other people are getting up and owning the stage and you sound like a stuttering idiot. Pull it together,” she said. “I said, 'I'm not doing it on purpose, I'm uncomfortable and when people get uncomfortable they resort to their ... .' I make awkward jokes and stutter.”
She went on to say, “That was actually a moment when I really wanted it to be special. That was not the time I wanted to be the down-home Girl. I wanted to be graceful."
In the same interview, Lawrence opened up about weight critics, saying she had to deal with people telling her she needed to lose weight before her career really took off.
