Masterchef finalist Joshua Marks was found dead of a gunshot to the head in Chicago’s South Side Friday night.
The 26-year-old’s body was found at around 6:45 p.m. Friday night when police responded to a call that a body had been found in an alley. An autopsy conducted earlier this morning ruled that his death was a suicide.
"Joshua Marks suffered a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was suicide," the Chicago Medical Examiner's office confirmed to People in a statement.
According to the Chicago Tribune, officers found a revolver near his body at the scene.
Two of Marks’s relatives were on the scene with police. One of them told officers that Marks suffered from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Marks previously spoke of his disorder when he was a part of the Make a Sound Project, which is a suicide awareness program, reports CNN.
Marks is best known as the 7-foot-2, kind-hearted chef who made it to the finals of the cooking competition Masterchef. He was named runner-up after losing to winner Christine Ha.
One of the judges of Masterchef and world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay tweeted Saturday morning about Marks’s death.

Earlier this summer, Marks had an altercation with police that landed him in the hospital. According to the LA Times, he claimed that he had been turned into a god by Ramsay, and it took five officers to finally subdue him.
According to the Tribune, he was then charged with aggravated battery against a peace officer as well as attempting to disarm a police officer.
