Michael Douglas and his ex-wife Diandra Douglas have been trying to see their son, Cameron, in prison while speaking out about what they perceive to be an unfair sentence. Michael spoke out at the Emmys and Diandra started a Change.org petition.
Unfortunately for her, the petition has been removed from the website, TMZ reports.
The Drug Policy Alliance was heading up the petition, but then decided to back out as they felt it unfair to be singling anyone out for help, especially a celebrity's son.
Before the petition was taken down, Diandra was doing her best to try and get celebrities to sign it. She reached out via email to Yoko Ono, Bo Derek, Bianca Jagger and others saying, "We have not seen our son for over a year and the government is telling us we cannot see our son for TWO YEARS!"
She continued, "Cameron has also been in solitary confinement for TWO YEARS! (For a non violent crime of possession). As parents we are fighting back."
Diandra ended the email with the plea, "Our son Cameron has been sentenced to 9yrs, the longest sentence ever handed out by the Federal Government for a non violent crime of possession. PLEASE help us by forwarding this petition after signature, to anyone you know who would like to help the cause."
As previously reported Michael Douglas used his speech for Behind the Candelabra to talk about his son. "Well, my son is in federal prison based upon -- he's been a drug addict for a large part of his life and was arrested."
He also said, "I think things are going to be revived regarding nonviolent drug addicts/criminals. My last comment on the United States represents 5 percent of the world's population and we have 25 percent of the world's prisoners."
