U2 is set to release two new songs on Record Store Day’s Black Friday on November 29. The singles will be released on 10” vinyl and features a painting of Nelson Mandela.
Billboard reports the songs, "Ordinary Love" and "Breath," were written for the upcoming film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which also comes out on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving that traditionally marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping rush.
U2's website explained that the band, who are friends with Nelson Mandela, were inspired to write the music after seeing early cuts of the film which stars Idris Elba and Naomie Harris and is directed by Justin Chadwick.
"When I asked them to consider writing a song for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, it was the fastest 'yes' I have ever received," said producer Harvey Weinstein. "The band saw various cuts of the film over the summer and worked diligently to write a song that truly reflects Nelson Mandela. I think they did a brilliant job honoring the man and the leader they have known for over 20 years."
“Breathe” was originally released on the No Line on the Horizon album, They have dubbed the new version the “Mandela Version." The vinyl is limited to 10,000 copies.
