The two-year-old son of Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson is reportedly in a South Dakota hospital after being beaten by a man dating the boy’s mother.
TMZ is reporting that Peterson has left the team and is with his son. Officials told the site that a suspect,27-year-old Joseph Patterson, is in custody and was charged with aggravated felony assault and battery of an infant.
Emergency responders arrived at the apartment where the child was living at 5:46 PM Wednesday and the child was unresponsive. He was then taken to a hospital and personnel there determined that the injuries showed abuse.
According to The New York Daily News, Peterson’s reps and the team have not made an official statement. The team only said that he left for “personal reasons.”
The Star-Tribune reports that Peterson is in Minnesota and should be speaking with the media today to comment on the reports.
The Vikings play the Carolina Panthers in Minnesota this Sunday.
UPDATE: The Argus Leader has reported that police say Peterson's son has died from his injuries. Peterson did tell reporters that he will play on Sunday.
