‘Terminator 5’ producers looking at Emilia Clarke, Tom Hardy as casting begins

By Daniel S Levine,

The Terminator 5 cast will soon start taking shape and, while it’s very early, the film could include many familiar faces. Reports over the past few days have linked several top actors for the key roles on Sarah Connor, John Connor and Kyle Reese.

Last week, the blog SchmoesKnow claimed that Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, 21 Jump Street star Brie Larson and Margot Robbie are being considered for a young Sarah Connor, the mother of John Connor - the man destined to lead the rebellion against the SkyNet machines. The site suggested that Tron Legacy’s Garrett Hedlund and The Host’s Boyd Holbrook are being considered to play John.

Later, sources for The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Clarke and Larson will do tests for the role, as well as another young actress whose name was not reported. Interestingly, the trade is suggesting that Hedlund is actually being considered for the Kyle Reese role - John’s father. Holbrook is not in the running, according to the site.

THR also notes that Alan Taylor, the Game of Thrones director who was hired in September, is looking at Hardy for the role of John. However, there have been no offers and he hasn’t even met with Hardy.

Linda Hamilton originally played Sarah Connor in Terminator and T2: Judgement Day, while Michael Biehn played Kyle in Terminator. Kyle was actually the man John sent back in time to save his mother from a Terminator sent to 1984 to kill her. Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to be back.

THR suggests that the story for Terminator 5 centers on Sarah, with her needing to be protected as she grows up.

Terminator 5 hits theaters on June 26, 2015. Taylor just directed Thor: The Dark World, which opened on Friday.
