CBS renews ‘Survivor’ for two more cycles during next TV season

By Daniel S Levine,

Two more editions of Survivor will air during the next television season, CBS said on Thursday. This will bring the long-running, now iconic reality show to 30 cycles.

The 29th and 30th editions of Survivor will air during the 2014-2015 TV season. Jeff Probst will return to host both seasons, as he has done since the show premiered in May 2000.

Unlike other reality competition shows that only last a few seasons, Survivor has kept going and only continues to grow. The current season, Blood vs. Water, has averaged 11.29 million viewers and a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. CBS also pointed out that it averages a 4.1 in the 25-54 demo. It is the No. 2 reality show on TV in the 18-49 demo.

The show has set the standard for the reality competition genre, winning a special Emmy in 2001 in the Outstanding Non-Fiction Program (Special Class) category. Probst has won four Emmys for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Series. Mark Burnett and Probst are the executive producers.

"I am thrilled that our fans get to continue their love affair with Survivor on CBS through 2015," Burnett said. “This current season has become one of the most-loved seasons ever and I promise our fans to make season 29 and 30 even better... I love Survivor.”
