The first teaser trailer for Jupiter Ascending, the new film from Andy and Lana Wachowski, has just hit the internet and shows that the creators of The Matrix have not stopped envisioning more intricate science fiction worlds and stories.
Jupiter Ascending, which was officially announced in March, stars Channing Tatum as a pointy-eared alien sent to earth to save Jupiter, played by Mila Kunis. Based on the teaser, which runs two minutes, it looks like Jupiter is supposed to take a major role in the galaxy and it’s Tatum’s character’s job to keep her from danger. Humans are the lowest form of evolution in the universe in this film, as Tatum tells us, “It can be difficult for people from underdeveloped worlds to hear that their planet is not the only inhabited planet.”
The new film will be released less than two years after the Wachowski’s previous film, 2012’s Cloud Atlas. Although the expensive film earned mixed reviews and only grossed $27 million domestically, Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures decided to work with them again, as the two studios are releasing Jupiter Ascending as well.
Jupiter Ascending, which also stars Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne, will hit theaters on July 25, 2014.
