'Community' takes aim at 'Mad Men' in latest Season 5 teaser

By Daniel S Levine,

Community has never been shy about its reliance on pop culture and other television shows for jokes and the latest spot for the show’s new season fully embraces that. The 30-second teaser takes aim at AMC’s Mad Men.

The Community: Mad Men Edition teaser makes fun of Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner’s inventive “Next on Mad Men” segments after each new episode. Weiner chops up the next episode in a way to reveal absolutely nothing about the show’s storyline. They usually include characters saying this back and forth to each other that aren’t related and Community’s Dan Harmon perfectly captures that.

“Here’s all you need to know,” Chang (Ken Jeong) says at the beginning, but of course the teaser reveals nothing.

At the end, star Joel McHale is seen posing like Jon Hamm’s Don Draper with a glass in his hand.

NBC started promoting Community’s fifth season earlier this month with several trailers that do reveal a bit about the plot. We know that McHale’s Jeff Winger has to go back to Greendale after he goes broke since he wasted money on commercials.

Community will be back on Jan. 2. The rest of the cast includes Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie (who frequently appears on Mad Men), Jim Rash and Donald Glover. Chevy Chase left the show and Glover will only be in five episodes this season.
