By Chelsea Lewis ,

Josh Gad will star and co-write the upcoming Warner Brothers' feature of Gilligan's Island. It has not yet been announced which role Gad will play in the feature film adaptation of the popular TV show.

Deadline reported that the Book of Mormon and Frozen star will be writing the script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

Ross Schwartz, who is the son of the late Gilligan's Island creator Sherwood Schwartz, will also be joining the project as a producer.

The film will tell the comedic story of seven ship-wrecked passengers. The ship ride was only supposed to be three hours but the passengers find themselves on a deserted island.

Gilligan's Island aired on CBS from 1964-67 and starred many iconic characters such as Skipper, Ginger and The Professor. Playing these roles included actors Bob Denver, Alan Hale Jr and Tina Louise.

Entertainment Weekly added that the TV show has become more popular through re-runs and NBC has aired several TV movies based off the show but this will be the first time the show is adapted for the big screen.

Warner Brothers has not yet announced a release date for the upcoming film.
