Justin Bieber tweets that he is retiring just before release of 'Believe' movie

By Daniel S Levine,

Justin Bieber fans will get a nice Christmas Day present from their favorite teen pop singer with his new movie, but he shared some sad news on Twitter. He said that he is retiring from the music business, even though the last time he said that, his management called it a joke.

Late last night, Bieber suddenly wrote, “My beloved beliebers I'm officially retiring.” He followed that up with a message to fans about the media, which he claims makes up stories about him. “They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle,” the “As Long As You Love Me” singer wrote.

He then wished everyone a Merry Christmas and noted that even though he may be leaving music, he will be with his fans forever. “Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ Merry Christmas IM HERE FOREVER,” the last message read.

Bieber’s comments come a week after he told Los Angeles’ Power 106 that he is retiring after he releases his Believe follow-up. “I’m actually retiring. I think I’m probably gonna quit music,” he said.

However, after those comments went viral, Bieber’s reps said that it was just a joke. Manager Scooter Braun claimed that Bieber did say on air that he was joking, but the video that circulated cut that off.

“He hasn’t taken time off since he was 12… he knows he wants it, and wants to spend time with this family,” Braun told Access Hollywood. “His younger brother and sister are starting to grow up and he doesn’t want to miss their childhood.”

There’s no word yet on whether or not Bieber was joking last night, but he did sound pretty serious. His fans can check out his latest concert movie, which chronicles the Believe tour, starting today.
