Katie Couric announced to staffers right before their holiday party that her syndicated show, Katie, would not be returning for a third season. The timing of the announcement was slightly off-putting, but Couric wanted staffers to hear the news from her.
Rumors had been circulating that a cancellation was in the future for the talk show and sources said Couric herself had doubts.
ABC and Couric released a joint statement saying that both the studio and Couric agreed it was time to end the show, added Fox News.
“While production will continue on Katie through June 2014, we've mutually agreed that there will not be a third season of the show,” representatives for Couric and the ABC network said in their statement, New York Daily News reported.
The show will continue to film new episodes up until June, which is when the second season will come to an end.
Couric's talk show has featured some big names in the entertainment industry, such as Taylor Swift and Taylor Schilling.
