The numbers are in and Katy Perry has the most followers for the year at 48.5 million, beating out Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Rihanna.
According to Rolling Stone, Perry gained nearly 1.5 million followers per month over the year on top of her already massive following, totaling a whopping 48.5 million followers. Beliebers did their best, but only got the singer to a close second with a total 47.7 million followers.
After going through a very public divorce with Russell Brand through 2012, and even revealing troubles in her Part of Me movie, Perry picked herself up and released her highly anticipated fourth album Prism in the fall of 2013, and has been on a promoting roller-coaster ever since, playing MTV’s VMA’s and planning her upcoming Prismatic World Tour, which is set to begin in 2014.
Other Twitter statistics for the year include Kanye West’s album Yeezus producing the most tweets for an album which yielded 4.4 million, most retweets came from boy-band sensation One Direction who actually had four of the top five retweets for the year, and of course, the sledge hammer licking, twerking queen that is Miley Cyrus had the most tweets about a song with “Wrecking Ball.”
