Mega Millions jackpot climbs to $550 million

By Samantha Ravenscroft,

With no winners from Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing, the jackpot climbs to $550 million. That would certainly make for a nice Christmas present.

Friday night’s drawing did bring out nine new million-dollar winners, though, according to the Mega Millions website. Last night’s winning numbers were: 19, 24, 26, 27, 70 and Mega Ball 12.

This Tuesday's $550 million prize will be Mega Millions' second-largest jackpot ever. It’s also the fourth-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

Friday's Mega Millions jackpot was increased by strong ticket sales. The jackpot was boosted by lottery officials from $400 million to $425 million Friday morning just 12 hours before the 11 p.m. drawing, according to USA Today.

With a large pot and a lot of people running around buying up tickets, chances of selecting a winning six-number ticket are just 1 in 259 million. Of course, this never stops those lottery hopefuls who boosted sales by up to 600 percent in at least one state.

The jackpot has steadily been growing since Oct. 1 with a winner having yet to come from the 21 drawings they have completed since then.
