Mother of toddler thrown off building wanted father's visits supervised

By Kyle Johnson,

Svetlana Kanarikov, the mother of the boy thrown from a New York City building, has said that she had initially sought to have her son's visits with the father supervised but eventually changed her mind.

Kanarikov said, according to The Associated Press, "The father never did anything violent against the child before." She added, "Both times Kirill was happy after seeing his dad. Skype calls were also going well.

As previously reported, Kirill was thrown from a high-rise apartment in NYC by his father, Dmitriy Kanarikov, who jumped shortly afterwards. They both hit different floor landings, never reaching the street.

The father died instantly after striking the fourth floor landing of the high-rise and Kirill died from injuries shortly after hitting the sixth floor landing.

The couple were going through a bitter divorce and the father did not want to relinquish custody of his son. Svetlana had said that Dmitriy had made suicidal threats during the divorce, but he never mentioned hurting their son.

The AP notes that Svetlana said of her child, "Kirill was a very sweet, wonderful child, who was loved very much." She added, "He will forever live on in my heart."
