The follow up to the Bourne franchise has received an official release date from Universal Pictures. The fifth installment of the Bourne films will be released on Aug. 14, 2015. This is the follow up film to the 2012 Bourne movie with Aaron Cross as the lead male character, instead of Jason Bourne, who was originally played by Matt Damon.
Justin Lin is set to direct the film, which will have Jeremy Renner returning to the role of Cross. Lin is known for his work on the Fast & Furious franchise but is not directing the upcoming Fast 7. This is the first Bourne movie that Lin will be working on.
The Hollywood Reporter added that the film is still being inspired by Robert Ludlum's book series, but since Damon’s departure, the film was taken in a different direction with Renner at the helm.
Deadline reported that longtime Bourne producer Frank Marshall will be joined by Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith on the latest film.
Universal also announced an Aug. 8, 2014 release date for Lucy, which stars Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman.
