Actor Nick Nolte has signed on to star in Gracepoint, an event series in the works at Fox and a remake of the acclaimed British series Broadchurch.
Nolte has been cast as Jack Reinhold and will regularly appear in the series. According to TheWrap, Jack is an old man who has lived in Gracepoint for 20 years and heads a wildlife observation program. His connection to the murder at the center of the series - the death of a young boy - is that the victim was a volunteer for his program.
Although Nolte is a three-time Oscar nominee, the actor has been transitioning to television. He was last seen on TV in the short-lived HBO series Luck, notes Variety. On the movie side, he was recently seen in Parker, Gangster Squad and The Company You Keep.
Fox announced back in August that it is going to adapt Broadchurch for American audiences. That series aired on ITV and starred Olivia Colman and David Tennant as detectives investigating the murder of an 11-year-old boy. It was shown on BBC America in the U.S.
Jacki Weaver and Anna Gunn joined Gracepoint last month. Tennant and Gunn will play the detectives in the U.S. version.
Filming starts next month. It will run 13 episodes.
