One Direction scores third no. 1 album on U.S. charts

One Direction’s Midnight Memories has debuted at No. 1 on U.S. music charts. The new album has sold over 546,000 copies.

Billboard reported that this makes the first group in history to debut at No. 1 with its first three albums. The boys scored number one hits with Up All Night and Take Me Home.

The boys of One Direction have reached this historical place, along with The Monkees’ who held the honor back in 1967.

With the start of Midnight Memories, One Direction also becomes only the third group to log multiple half-million sales weeks. The other two bands to reach this accomplishment were N'Sync and Backstreet Boys.

The New York Times added that the latest album from the boy band has reached the top spot in 26 countries.

The record sales for One Direction have been growing since Up All Night and Take Me Home.

Taking the No. 2 spot this week was Eminem with The Marshall Mathers LP 2. which sold 199,000 copies in its fourth week out.
