Paul Rudd will star as Ant Man in the upcoming Marvel film. The announcement came early this morning that the Anchorman 2 star will be playing Dr Hank Pym, who is known in the Marvel universe for inventing a formula which allows him to become the size of an ant.
BBC reported that the film would be released in July 2015 and will be directed by British filmmaker Edgar Wright, best known for directiong Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Wright will also be working on the screenplay for the upcoming film.
The news was first reported by TheWrap, which confirmed that he is in talks for the role.
Speculation started early on who would play this famous comic book role, the frontrunners included Rudd and Inception star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Early this week it was announced that Gordon-Levitt was connected to the upcoming Sandman project with D.C. comics.
Ant Man is part of the upcoming third phase of the Marvel universe, following the next Avengers film. It is unclear if Ant Man will be seen in the upcoming sequel to Avengers which will be directed by Josh Whedon and is set to be released in May 2015, reported The LA Times.
