Senator's ex-chief of staff's computer hard drive contained child porn

By Kyle Johnson,

Jesse Ryan Loskarn, the former chief of staff for Sen. Lamar Alexander, appeared in court on Thursday after he was arrested on charges of child pornography.

Loskarn is being charged with distribution and possession of child pornography, reports The Associated Press. He could face 10 years for possession and at least five to 25 years for distribution.

He answered in the affirmative when asked by the U.S. Magistrate Judge John M. Facciola if he was aware of how serious these charges are.

Loskarn will remain in custody over the weekend ahead of the preliminary hearing on Monday as the judge agreed with prosecutor Mi Yung Park that the ex-chief of staff was a flight risk and dangerous.

The Washington Post reports that Loskarn, between November 2010 and March 2011, bought videos from a movie company that the U.S. Postal Service Inspection Service and Toronto police were investigating.

Investigators were able to download files from a file-sharing network that Loskarn's IP address had used, with one video containing sexually explicit content involving girls under 10.

When authorities came to arrest him, they witnessed him attempting to hide a hard drive containing child pornography on his roof by the second story window.
