The time between Christmas and New Year’s is always busy, and the superstore Target is having another uncommon post-holiday problem after the security breach last month.
It seems that a number of the gift cards purchased by consumers don’t work. Frustrated shoppers have been found themselves at check-out unable to spend their gift cards.
A source told KSMP-TV that cashiers scanned the wrong code on the cards. That problem could have an impact on over 40,000 gift cards, according to Fox News. This represents less than 0.1 percent of the cards sold during the holiday period.
Shoppers have been hoping for a quick resolution to this problem, and Bloomberg reports that Target has been working to retain the loyalty of their customers.
“We are aware that some Target gift cards were not fully activated and apologize for the inconvenience,” Molly Snyder, a spokeswoman for Minneapolis-based Target, said in an e-mail.
Target reported that they are able to honor the affected gift cards throughout the New Year.
