Zero Dark Thirty actor Jason Clarke is reportedly in talks to star in the fifth Terminator film, now subtitled Genesis.
Clarke, who appeared in The Great Gatsby and won acclaim for his role as an interrogator in Zero Dark Thirty is in talks to star as John Connor, the man at the center of the Terminator series, Deadline reports. John connor is the leader of the rebellion against Skynet. In the previous Terminator movies, SkyNet has sent Terminator robots back in time to stop Connor from either being born or becoming a leader.
The new Terminator film is being developed by Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures and her brother David Ellison’s Skydance with Paramount signed to distribute. It will be released on July 1, 2015 and directed by Thor: The Dark World’s Alan Taylor. The series was created by James Cameron, but the rights are now under the control of Megan Ellison, who bought it for $20 million.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to return, while no one has been cast as John connor’s mother, Sarah Connor. Brie Larson is among the actresses in the running for the role, suggesting that the film will cover multiple eras.
Annapurna and Skydance are also reportedly developing a new Terminator TV series, which would tie-in with their new film.
Clarke will next be seen in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Child 44.
