Everything comes down to the performances tonight.
A few months back, season 5 of The Voice kicked off with an unforgettable round of blind auditions. Since the blind auditions, the talent has only gotten better, more unique and memorable. It all comes down to the final three vocalists: Will Champlin and Tessanne Chin representing Team Adam and Jacquie Lee representing Team Christina.
The coaches opened up the show singing “Pour Some Sugar on Me.”
Each vocalist had the chance to sing three songs in the finale. Starting off the night was Tessanne Chin. Chin opened the show by performing “Try” by P!nk. Levine started off the comments by saying that every moment that he has had with Chin has been educational, fun and inspirational and that her talent is rare. Green added that Chin did wonderful and that he is very proud of her because of her improvement and evolution.
Following Chin, the other member of Team Adam, Will Champlin, took the stage to perform “Not Over You” by Gavin DeGraw. Coach Levine started off the comments by saying that no one in the competition works as hard as Champlin. Aguilera added that Champlin has had such an interesting journey in this competition and that, as a performer, Champlin has overcome a lot of struggles and challenges.
Jacquie Lee took to the stage to perform “Back to Black,” originally performed by Amy Winehouse. Aguilera started off the comments by saying that she loves Lee and it is very obvious and clear how much joy she gets out of Lee’s performances.
Each vocalist was given the chance to sing a duet with their coach. First up was Chin who sang “Let It Be” with Coach Levine. The performance featured a reggae breakdown in the middle of the performance.
Jacquie Lee joined her coach Aguilera to sing “We Remain,” which was featured on the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack.
Will Champlin teamed up with Levine to sing an Elton John classic, “Tiny Dancer.”
The final three came together one last time to perform “I’ll Be There.”
Tessanne Chin took the stage one last time to perform “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. When Chin concluded her performance, the audience burst into applause. Levine started off the comments by saying that this song is very important and is one of the best vocals ever recorded. Levine added that Chin only rehearsed this once before singing it live.
Will Champlin completed his performance with “Everything I Do (I Do for You)” by Bryan Adams. Levine started off the comments by saying that Champlin has already won the competition because he has had so many victories during the course of this competition. Regardless of the outcome, this is a huge victory for Champlin. Shelton added that he always looks forward to what Champlin is singing and that every team that he has been on has made it to the finale.
Closing out the performances was Jacquie Lee from Team Christina. Lee sang her own version of Jennifer Hudson’s “And I’m Telling You.” Coach Aguilera added that she truly adores Lee and that she still can’t believe that so much talent comes out of the 16-year-old body. Shelton added that the performance was amazing and it was great to see the evolution of Lee and her coach-pairing was one of the best he had ever seen.
The finale will be completed tomorrow night on NBC and the winner of The Voice will be announced.
