Will.i.am claims he never agreed to New Year's Eve concert in Brazil

It was recently announced that will.i.am, of Black Eyed Peas fame, had canceled a New Year's Eve appearance in Rio de Janeiro. The event was Rio’s Copacabana New Year’s Eve event or Réveillon de Copacabana as it is more commonly known. Will.i.am is now claiming that he never agreed to be a part of the festivities.

According to Billboard, a variety of reports indicated that the "Scream and Shout" singer canceled his appearance at Rio's Copacabana New Year's event, but management for will.i.am claims the artist never officially signed on to perform on New York Eve.

Polo Molina, manager for will.i.am, released a statement regarding the incident where the singer also apologized. "During discussions about the invitation, the event producer expressed an intention to televise the concert. will.i.am's management team requested certain staging elements be added for the show in order to accommodate his televised performance. These staging elements were not confirmed, so no agreement to perform was ever reached."

The Rio Times added that the event was themed in celebration of the upcoming release of the animated movie, Rio 2, which features the voice of will.i.am.
