The New York red carpet premiere for Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street was last night and many of the stars turned out to see the finished product. Even Jordan Belfort, whose memoir of the same name is the basis for the film, attended.
While chatting with the press, many members of the production shared some interesting tidbits about it, including actress Margot Robbie, who didn’t think the sex scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio were that sexy.
Robbie spoke with the New York Post and called the scenes “the least romantic thing,” adding that, “The whole thing ended up being quite comical.”
She explained that one scene involved a dog and chicken livers in DiCaprio’s toes. “We’re in a small room, it’s hot, it’s sweaty, it smells like dog food,” she said.
On a more serious note, the film’s producers, Red Granite’s Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland, told The Hollywood Reporter that the boundaries Scorsese and DiCaprio pushed in this film were necessary, even though the film was almost rated NC-17.
“It's authentic; it's not shock value. It's how these guys lived,” McFarland said of the 1980s Wall Street the movie captures. Aziz added, “We were pushing the envelope on the movie, but to do anything less than that would do a disservice to the story.”
The two also explained why they decided to make the film, which they completely financed. Paramount is only distributing the film. “I think we were very, very big believers in the script and the material, and the prospect of teaming up Leo and Marty was a very big attraction for us,” Aziz told THR.
According to Bloomberg, the other members of the cast who came out for last night’s event were Matthew McConaughey with wife Camila Alves, Jon Favreau, P.J. Barnes, Jonah Hill and of course DiCaprio.
The Wolf of Wall Street opens on Christmas Day.
