2014 Olympics to be Held in Russia
The 22nd Winter Olympics in 2014 will be held in Sochi, Russia.
International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge made the official announcement, awarding the Games to Sochi during a ceremony in Guatemala City. Days earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin had visited Guatemala City to make a personal pitch for his country.
Sochi was one of three locations being considered for the Games. The Russian resort beat out South Korea's Pyeongchang and Austria's Salzburg. Host cities are chosen by ballots cast by members of the International Olympic Committee. The decision to hold the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi was made by 100 voting members.
The city of Sochi has a lot of preparation to look forward to, although they have already released computer animated designs of their plans.
There are three more Games coming up before the 2014 Winter Olympics. Beijing will host the 2008 Summer Olympics, Vancouver the 2010 Winter Olympics, and London the 2012 Summer Olympics.
