14-year-old girl stabs her sister 40 times because she felt unappreciated

Grief has stricken the small community of Mundelein, in the Chicago area with an 11-year-old girl being stabbed 40 times by her 14-year-old half sister.

CNN reports that the police found the 11-year-old girl unconscious and in need of immediate medical attention. The girl was found upstairs in her room and she later died from the trauma.

Her sister called the police and told them that an intruder had entered the home and attacked her sister. Authorities quickly placed three schools that were around the area on a lockdown.

The Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz offered a few words about the incident at a news conference, "This is quite a tragedy. There's a lot of grief going on right now. Please pray for us”

The Chicago Tribune uncovered more information about the fatal brawl that happened between the girls.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Claudia Kasten sat with the 14-year-old girl and described how she allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab her 11-year-old sister dozens of times. The victims name is Dora Betancourt.

While questioning the teen told the police that Dora was not appreciative of what she did around the house and was hitting her. She had said she has cooked dinner six times the previous week as well as her other chores.

The girls’ mother is the only parental and adult figure in the household. The mother was at work when the fight broke out between the girls.

Katsen said that the 14-year-old was still upset about the argument from the night before. The teen allegedly got a knife from the kitchen and went to Dora’s room and began stabbing her.

"A struggle ensued," Kasten said. "She kept stabbing.” Dora endured 40 stab wounds around her neck, chest and arms.

After the attack the teen tried to clean off all the blood and called her mother. She told her mother a lie saying she woke up to screams and saw an intruder stabbing her sister.

The 14-year-old is facing juvenile charges of first-degree murder.
