ABC cancels 'Assets' after weak start

Period drama The Assets has been cancelled by ABC after airing only two very-low rated episodes.

A rep for the alphabet network confirmed the show's removal from its Thursday lineup to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show, based off of Circle of Treason: A CIA Account of Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed, The Assets, will be replaced by Shark Tank repeats for the time being. ABC hasn't announced what will follow three weeks of Shark Tank episodes yet, but only needs to fill that timeslot for another month before Scandal returns from its winter hiatus.

The Assets getting axed isn't especially surprising as the show only managed a 0.7 for its premiere episode. The second episode wasn't any better and actually dropped slightly to a 0.6 in the important 18-49 demo.

Other ABC freshmen midseason drama Killer Women could follow Assets as it premiered to an only slightly better 0.9 in the demo and poor reviews. THR notes that the quick hook given to the show similarly happened with Lucky 7, which also earned a quick cancellation.
