ABC orders pilot from writer of '12 Years a Slave'

ABC has ordered a pilot from the writer of 12 Years A Slave, John Ridley. The upcoming pilot is titled American Crime.

The show will tell the story of characters in a racially charged trial whose lives are changed forever due to their actions in this trial.

Variety reported that Ridley and Michael McDonald are exective producers.

This will be the first time in three years that Ridley has been working on television. Ridley was working on a boxing drama that HBO passed on and worked on The Wanda Sykes Show five years ago.

Only two days ago Ridley won the Golden Globe for best drama feature, screenwriter for his work on 12 Years a Slave, added The Hollywood Reporter.

Ridley has another big project on his plate, he is writing Ben-Hur for MGM.

This is the fourth pilot that ABC has ordered to head into production.

12 Years A Slave won the Golden Globe for best motion picture drama two nights ago and is already an Oscar favorite.
