Season 17 of Dancing With The Stars left viewers stunned with surprising eliminations, all culminating in Amber Riley and Derek Hough winning the Mirror Ball Trophy. Now, ABC has announced the premiere date for Season 18, which is sure to bring in some excitement.
Paul Lee, the President of Entertainment at ABC, revealed DWTS would return on March 17, in what is sure to be a ratings win for the network. Since the show was moved to one night only instead of its previous two-night run, the ratings for the series were high. E! Online reported Lee as saying, “It actually grew. We didn’t quite end the season as high, but the season itself was higher.”
While there has not been any information yet about which stars will be in the line up this go around, there is buzz over whether Maks Chmerkovskiy, former professional dancer and competitor on DWTS, will fill in for Len Goodman once again as judge.
According to The Global Dispatch, Lee has been impressed by Chmerkovskiy’s “creative input” and he could be back in the judge’s chair. About Maks, Lee stated, “He did a really good job [as a judge]. I mean, we were really pleased with a lot of those guest judges. He did a really good job and we look forward to working with him.”
