After a frightening collapse at the Georgia Dome on Tuesday night, AP Photographer Dave Martin has died.
According to a report in USA Today, Martin was taking celebration shots after a win by Texas A&M over Duke. He collapsed in front of players and coaches and was immediately placed on a stretcher and given CPR. At Emory Hospital Midtown, they found that Martin, 59, had passed away. He suffered a heart attack.
AP Vice President And Director of Photography Santiago Lyon told the sports writers at Associated Press, "Dave Martin was an excellent photojournalist, a consummate and dedicated professional and a wonderful person. Wherever his work took him, he made many friends and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him."
Martin joined AP as a staff photographer in 1983. His 30-year career spanned coverage for Super Bowls, Olympics and Ryder Cups as well as political conventions and conflicts in Iraq.
He is survived by his wife, Jamie Martin, and two children, Emily and Skip.
