Arctic Monkeys earn first number one single

The Arctic Monkeys have been making music for almost a decade and have finally earned their first number one single on the Billboard alternative charts with "Do I Wanna Know?" which went from second on the charts to number one this week.

Billboard reported that the bands highest single other than "Do I Wanna Know?" was the breakout hit in 2006, "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" which reached No. 7 on the charts.

"Know" is the lead single from their fifth studio album, AM. AM debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard album charts which was a career best for Arctic Monkeys.

The Arctic Monkeys also landed a number one record in the U.K. which helped them become the first indie band to release five number one albums.

Peter Berard, director of marketing for Domino, Arctic Monkeys' longtime label, spoke the importance of marketing this new sound and single to fans. ""The band has built a devoted fan base with persistent touring and the support of radio. It's rewarding to see the band's dedication produce such great success"

The band has publicly thanked their label for allowing them the creative and musical freedom to produce and make the record that they wanted to as a band, Gigwise added.
